First Day of Running

Well, in 19 degree weather I set out in Under Armour to kick off the half marathon training. Today was more about just getting acclimated to the cold weather as opposed to actual distance training. I found that my gear kept me warm, but the chilly air frequently left me a little more breathless than I would have liked for just a 1.5 mile run. I figure I have about 3 weeks to do these type of runs until I need to start focusing on distance and/or time.

I considered utilizing the campus's indoor facilities, but a really dislike running on treadmills, and the nine laps to a mile track is a bit too small of space. Ideally I'd like to run in the neighborhoods around campus, but, believe it or not, college students are not the best caretakers in the world and many side walks are coated with ice or snow. I instead decided to stick to campus sidewalks that are cleared wide and salted. I'm going to try to time my runs so I'm not dodging in and out of backpacks during class change time.
